Mr. Jacob Devol, Choral  Director

Director's Corner

Jacob Devol is coming to Godwin after 3 years of teaching choir at Patrick Henry High School in Ashland, VA. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education (Vocal-Choral) from Virginia Commonwealth University and is a graduate of Hermitage High School. He is a proud product of Henrico County and is thrilled to be directing the choirs at Godwin!

While at Patrick Henry, Mr. Devol expanded the offerings of the choral program and made it a goal to include as many students as possible in major events. In addition to his three non-auditioned choirs, he directed two competitive show choirs and a women’s chamber choir, all of which received Superior ratings during the 2019 Competition and Assessment season. The groups also received caption awards such as “Best Vocal Quality,” “Best Show Design,” “Best Costumes,” and “Best Band.” Mr. Devol also served as Musical Director for Beauty andthe Beast and Shrek: The Musical. Outside of school, he serves as a professional tenor for the Compline Choir at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, as well as a substitute pianist and vocalist for other churches in the metro Richmond area, including his home church, St. Michael’s. He enjoys musical theater and was happy to play the role of “El Gallo” in the Henrico Theatre Company’s 2019 production The Fantasticks, with Mr. Clatterbuck as the music director!

Over the next several years, it is his hope to uphold the high standards of the Godwin Choral Department while providing a unique opportunity for our students to make memories, broaden their minds, and have ownership as members of an ensemble to create something greater than the sum of their parts. Go Eagles!
